What is JEE Mains?

INTRODUCTION

  • JEE mains is the first phase of JEE, a national-level engineering entrance examination

  • Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an engineering entrance examination held in India for candidates seeking admission to prestigious engineering institutes.

  • The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the JEE Main examination for admission into undergraduate engineering programs like B. Tech, B. E, B.Arch., B. Plan at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, and Institutions funded by participating State Governments.

  • JEE Main consists of two papers. Candidates seeking admission to B.E./ B.Tech. the course have to appear for JEE Main Paper-1, while candidates seeking admission to B.Arch./ B. Planning course have to appear for Paper-2.

  •  National Testing Agency (NTA) will begin the JEE Main 2023 session 1 application form submission in the first week of March 2023 and the session 2 application in the first week of April 2023. 

  • NTA will upload an official brochure of JEE Main 2023 that will include everything about the exam, including when to fill out the online application form, downloading admit card, appear for the test, check out the result, and more.

JEE Main 2023 Eligibility Criteria

  • According to the eligibility criteria, there is no age restriction. Per the NTA, candidates who have passed class 12 or appeared in the class 12 equivalent examination in 2020, 2021, or 2022, regardless of their age, can appear in JEE (Main) 2023. 

  • This year, NTA has removed 75% criteria from the minimum JEE Main 2023 eligibility norms.   

  • However, for JEE Mains Architecture and Planning courses, candidates have to score a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate of the qualifying examination. 



Age Criteria: JEE Main 2023 does not have an upper age limit. However, candidates may be required to meet the age requirements of the institutes to which they wish to apply.

Educational Qualification: Aspirants must have passed their 12th or equivalent exam in 2023 or 2022.  Candidates appearing for 12th boards (or equivalent) in 2023 are also eligible to apply for the examination.

 

Number of Attempts: NTA announced that the number of attempts for JEE Main would be reduced to two attempts from four attempts.


Language Proficiency:  JEE Main 2023 will be conducted in 13 regional languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. In this way, students will be able to write the exams in their own language.

JEE Main 2023 Application Process

STEP 1

Candidates must register on the official website of JEE Main before applying for the exam. 


Steps to fill out JEE Main registration form 2023 are mentioned below:


  • Visit the JEE Main official website, (jeemain.nta.nic.in).

  • Click on Apply for JEE Main 2023

  • Now click on New Registration

  • JEE Main 2023 Registration window will open. 

  • On the registration page of JEE Main, the following details of the applicant must be entered carefully: Nationality, Identification type, State, Name of the Student, Date of Birth and gender of the applicant. After filling in all the above-mentioned details, enter the security pin and click on the submit button.

  • Another important step to note here is during the registration for the online application form, and candidates have to note down the system generated application number. Then the candidate should also create a PASSWORD and choose Security Question and enter his/her desired answer.

  • After the successful submission of the personal details, an application number is generated, and it will be used to complete the remaining steps of the application form. It will also be required for all future reference/correspondence. 

  • This application number will also be used/referred for both Sessions of JEE Main 2023. For subsequent logins, the candidate will be able to login directly with the respective system generated Application Number and created Password.

How to Fill JEE Main 2023 Application Form?

The steps to fill out the application form for JEE Main 2023 exam are mentioned below: 

  • Log in to the official website using your credentials.

After successful registration, students will be redirected to the JEE Main application page, where the following details have to be entered:

Exam Related Details:

In this section, the information related to the medium of question paper, mode of examination and the course for which they are applying is to be provided.

Students appearing for the offline mode of examination can opt for 4 centres according to their preferences, whereas for appearing in the online mode of examination, the applicant can opt for only one centre.

Personal Details of Applicant:

In this section, personal information like parents’ name, name, nationality, state of eligibility, date of birth, category, gender, etc.

It is mandatory for candidates to enter their Aadhaar number, place of residence and mailing address.

Academic Details:

In this section, all the details related to the qualifying examination like their school’s name, school address, class 10th &and class 12th passing year, etc.

            Students appearing for the 12th class board exams also have to enter the details of                their qualifying examination.

Address Details of The Applicants:

In this section, applicants need to provide their complete address like mobile number, pin code, state, country, email address, etc.

Guardian Details:

In this section, all the details of their Guardians and parents like occupation, qualification, annual income details, etc

  • Candidates are advised to save the login credentials and print out the application form for future references.

  • Applicants should apply for JEE Main 2023 online. 

  • The applicant will submit only one application as multiple application forms will be rejected. Any attempt to violate this rule can lead to the candidate being disqualified, with legal action being taken, such as debarring from all future examinations conducted by JEE Apex Board.

Payment Of JEE Main Application Fee

  • The final step is the payment of the fees. For making the payment, the applicants need to submit the details of either credit or debit card, followed by hitting the submit button. 

  • Application or registration fees for JEE Main form can also be paid through e-Challan, UPI or net banking. 

  • Processing charges and GST, as applicable, are chargeable to the candidate (in addition to
    the examination fee) by the concerned Bank/Payment Gateway Integrator.

Step 5: 

Take A Print Out of The Confirmation Page

  • After the payment of application fees, the candidates can download and take a printout of the acknowledgement or confirmation page for future reference. 

  • If applicants have made an error while filling the JEE Main form, then, in that case, the applicants are allowed to correct their mistakes online. 

  • However, the applicants are not allowed to change their mode of examination from Online to Offline mode, and except that, the applicants would be allowed to change all other details.

  • In case the Confirmation Page is not generated after payment of the fee, then the candidate may have to approach the concerned Bank/Payment Gateway (in the helpline number and e-mail given in the Information Bulletin) for ensuring the successful payment or for obtaining the refund of duplicate / multiple payments.

JEE Main Application Form Correction

  • The correction process of JEE Main online application is normally initiated by the conducting body on their official website. 

  • The applicants can edit their personal data or any incorrect and incomplete information in their application forms on the official link jeemain.nic.in. 

  • The applicants can even upload fresh images if the previously uploaded images have an evident issue.

  • Any changes in the application form can be made only once; therefore, the applicants must follow all the guidelines carefully before updating their JEE Main application forms. 


  • The applicants, however, cannot change their mode of examination from online to offline mode of examination. The applicants must ensure that all the information updated is as per the guidelines prescribed to avoid rejections of their updated application forms.


  • The dates to make changes in the application form will be announced by the exam authority. The applicants need to pay an additional fee for making corrections to their application forms. 

  • The payment can be made online through debit cards, credit cards or e-wallets and offline through e-challans at Canara, Syndicate, and ICICI Banks within the above-mentioned time frame.


Candidates should have the following documents ready before filling out the online application form:

  •  A computer/laptop with a stable internet connection

  • Qualification details

  • A clear passport photograph (scanned copy) in JPG/JPEG format (size from 10–200 kb)

  • A scanned copy of signature JPG/JPEG format (size from 4–30 kb)

  • A scanned copy of Class 12 or an equivalent admit card/mark sheet (size from 50–500 kb)

  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS etc.) and the file size: 50kb to 300KB). (If applicable) 

  • PwD certificate (file size: 50kb to 300kb) in jpg/jpeg format. (If applicable) 

  • Valid Email ID

  • Valid mobile number

  • Net banking account, UPI, or a valid debit/credit card 


Application details


  • The final submission of the online application form will remain incomplete if all the steps are not completed.

  • The application fee will not be refunded once it has been paid.

  • The entire process of application for JEE Main is online, and candidates are not required to send/submit any copies of the document(s) to JEE Apex Board through post/fax/email.

  • JEE Apex Board can use the data generated for analysis and research.

  • All the applicants who have submitted the online applications and paid the fees for JEE Main will be allowed to appear for JEE Main 2023. 

  • The admit cards for the same will be uploaded on the official website as per the official schedule. 

  • Applicants are advised to ensure their eligibility and category (if applying under the reserved category) as per the requirements of the institutions where the candidate is seeking admission. 

  • NTA will not be responsible for any incorrect/wrong information furnished by the student(s) in their online application form. Letters or emails in this regard shall not be entertained either.

JEE Main 2023 Admit Card

  • Last year, NTA released the JEE Main 2022 July session admit card on July 21, 2022. This year, NTA will likely upload the JEE Main 2023 admit cards in the second week of April 2023.

  • Candidates will be able to download the hall tickets for any session from the official website. Please note that the JEE admit card is only available online. 

  • Candidates will need to log in to their candidate portal using their application number, which will be system generated at the time of registration, and then enter the date of birth in the required fields.


JEE Main 2023 Exam Centres List

  • The total number of cities where JEE Main 2023 shall be conducted will be updated officially on the website.  


  • Candidates must select four cities of their choice as test centres while applying for the exam. NTA will conduct the examination in cities listed in the information brochure across the country.


  • JEE Apex Board have released the final allotment of the cities on the admit card for candidates who have registered for the exam. Candidates can log into their accounts with their application number and date of birth to check their allotted cities.



  • Please note that the decision of JEE Apex Board regarding the allotment of centre, date, and shift will be final. No correspondence or requests will be entertained in such a case.



SANDES Application

Interestingly, this time candidates can also download and install the SANDES application as a secondary channel to receive time-to-time notifications from NTA. 

SANDES app can be downloaded and installed on system-generated Mobile Device as follow:

  • Visit the Google Play Store on your Mobile Device.

  • Search for the “Sandes App” in the search bar.

  • It then displays the app in the play store.

  • Click on Install, and then the app gets downloaded to your mobile.

  • Now, mobile users can enjoy the services of the Sandes Mobile App.

JEE Mains Answer Key 2023

  • The concerned authorities will release the answer key of JEE Mains 2023 for both Paper 1 and 2 and sessions on the official website

JEE Main 2023 Result Declaration

  • NTA will likely declare JEE Main 2023 result for session 1 in the second week of May 2023. JEE Main result 2023 for Session 2 will be declared in the 2nd week of June 2023. Candidates can access the result link for the exam and check their scorecards on the website. 

  • A candidate must log in using the application form number and date of birth.

  • The result will be available in the form of a scorecard with details of the candidate’s percentile scores in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and an average percentile score in all three subjects, All India Rank and JEE Main cut-off for JEE Advanced. Candidates who will score above the cut-off will appear in JEE Advanced exam.

  • Along with the result, NTA will also announce the list of toppers and a list of students with 100 percentile scores as per the result. 

  • The All-India Ranks (AIR) of candidates and cut-offs will be declared accordingly.

JEE Main 2023 Cut-off

  • The JEE Main 2023 cut-off will be of two types - admission cut-off and qualifying cut-off. 

  • The JEE cut-off marks are categorised and declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA)

  • Aspirants who meet the qualifying cut-off should at least score the required number of marks to be eligible to compete in JEE Advanced exam

  • Those who achieve the minimum entrance cut-off marks are eligible to propose their candidature for admission to IITs. JEE Apex Board will release the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) list in the form of a seat-intake window for each college regularly. For the exam, aspirants must have a minimum score equal to the closing cut-off of the preferred participating institute.

JEE Mains 2023 Counselling Process

  • JEE Main 2023 Counselling is going to be organized by JoSAA from the second week of June 2023. 

  • The counselling process through CSAB it will get started from the fourth week of July 2023.
