WhaT is NTSE?

  • NTSE exam is the National level scholarship program by Govt. of India and most venerated exam of India.

  • It is not only about scholarship but a matter of great pride and honor for every student to be recognised as the nation’s talent.

  • The NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) examination is conducted every year at two levels – Stage I (State level) and Stage II (National Level).

  • NTSE Stage I is conducted by States and Union territories whereas NTSE Stage II is conducted by NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training). Only candidates who qualify NTSE 2023 stage 1 will be eligible to appear for stage 2.

  • NCERT took several steps to give many booming opportunities to bright and aspiring students. Many programs were initiated for the same purpose, one of them is the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE).

  • It is a national level exam, conducted only for 10th standard students.

  • The shortlisted candidates are awarded a prescribed amount of scholarship every month for higher studies and professional courses.

NTSE Scholarship

  • The primary objective of conducting NTSE is to award scholarships to potential candidates who are aspiring to pursue higher education in Science or Social Studies stream.

  • These scholarships take away some of the financial concerns and provide you more time to study, gain knowledge and secure better marks.

  • NTSE scholarship will be awarded based on the aggregate performance of students in both the stages of the examination.

NTSE scholars are provided with a scholarship of Rs 1250 per month for Class XI and XII and Rs 2000 per month for graduation and higher studies by Indian government. PhD candidates will receive scholarships as per the UGC norms.

Apart from this, being an NTSE scholar provides following benefits:

  • NDA National Defence Academy Exam organized by UPSC gives preference to NTSE scholars.

  • Renowned Engineering College for Information Technology such as IIIT-Hyderabad offers 15 seats to NTSE scholars. This institute is considered equivalent to IIT-Bombay.

  • NTSE scholars will have upper edge in Foreign University admissions.

  • Preference in various Public and Private sector Jobs.

  • IIIT-Delhi, an Engineering College under Government of Delhi, gives ‘bonus marks’ to NTSE scholars.

Important Points Regarding the NTSE Scholarships

  • Candidates receiving scholarships from other sources regularly have to choose from both scholarships.

  • The NTS scholarship for such candidates will be discontinued for a period of 12 months and will only be resumed if the candidate approaches the NCERT, post fulfilling the other terms and conditions.

  • Students will only be eligible to receive NTS scholarships if they are unemployed. A certificate stating the same shall be submitted by the students.

  • Students pursing any courses from abroad will not receive any kind of scholarships.

  • Claim bills can be submitted by the students any time during their course. Claim bills for each year/class have to be submitted separately.

  • Those students will not receive any scholarship if they leave their course of study within 30 days of registration.
